“Our laws did not anticipate the situation we have today and it has raised valid concerns about individual liberty while protecting public health. Our Emergency Disaster Law, like those in other states, was written with short term incidents like floods, explosions, contamination spills, localized health endangerment, or even acts of terrorism in mind. The word “temporary” exists repeatedly within this law. This Chinese virus has impacted our health, our economy, people’s paychecks, and our kid’s education for months. I look forward to our General Assembly clarifying this law, and if I am Attorney General our Governor, Senators and Representatives can count on my support working with them to reform the law, maximizing individual liberty while protecting the public.”

I am humbled by the support of Delegates from throughout Indiana who have nominated me to serve as Indiana’s next Attorney General.

For eight years I served as Indiana’s Secretary of State, after winning two statewide elections, and I look forward to earning the trust and support of voters once again to serve as Indiana’s next Attorney General.

As Secretary of State I operated my office efficiently, using less taxpayer dollars than predecessors going back nearly two decades. I created the Prosecution Assistance Unit (PAU) to find, and bring to justice, criminals defrauding Hoosiers.

With work as Secretary of State I have a record Hoosiers can trust.

As our next Attorney General I will help ensure that we always protect Hoosiers with pre-existing healthcare conditions, that we operate the AG’s office efficiently and protect taxpayer dollars, that we uphold the rule of law to protect our communities from crime, that we support a growing economy, and we safeguard our Constitutional freedoms along with common sense, conservative values.

HENDRICKS COUNTY (May 26) —Today, former Secretary of State and Member of Congress Todd Rokita announced Senator Erin Houchin is serving as Campaign Chair in his race for Indiana Attorney General.  

Erin Houchin currently serves as Indiana State Senator for District 47, which includes all of Crawford, Harrison, Orange, Perry and Washington Counties, and the eastern portion of Dubois County. She is also the founder and President of Contend Communications & Development, LLC.  

“I have known Erin Houchin for over two decades, and I know her passion for service, dedication to our conservative principles, and ability to fight and win tough battles is unmatched,” said Rokita. “As I run for Indiana Attorney General, I could not be prouder to have her spearheading our efforts, and am certain she will bring the experience, network, organizational skills, and relentless leadership to our team that we need to win the nomination at the Indiana Republican Party Convention, and in the November election.”  

Erin Houchin has a long history of working to promote Republican policies, previously serving as Vice Chairman of the Washington County Republican Party, 9th District Chairman for the Indiana Republican Party, and 9th District Chairman of the Indiana Federation of Republican Women. She is a graduate of the Richard G. Lugar Excellence in Public Service Series, Indiana Leadership Forum, and Women’s Campaign School at Yale University. Houchin received her Bachelor’s degree from Indiana University and holds a Master’s degree in Political Management from The George Washington University.

Todd Rokita previously served as Indiana Secretary of State and 4th District Congressman. He is seeking the Republican nomination for the Office of Attorney General at the upcoming Indiana Republican State Convention.
